AromaDb: A Database of Plant's Aroma Molecules

About AromaDb Database:

AromaDb database is an electronic library of aroma molecules of medicinal and aromatic plants origin and include the comprehensive information about aroma plants, varieties, accessions, chemotypes, essential oils yields, chromatograms, major and minor compounds, structural elucidation data, structural data (2D & 3D) of very small size volatile molecules (< 300 mol. wt.) and medium size molecules (< 500 mol. wt.), and biological pathways information. Here, aroma compounds classified by structure as esters, linear terpenes, cyclic terpenes, aromatic, amines, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, lactones, thiols and miscellaneous compounds.

About Aroma Molecule:

An aroma molecule is a chemical compound that has a smell or odor and volatile nature to reach the olfactory system in the upper part of the nose. Mostly these compounds have less than 300 molecular weights. These very small size molecules is also known as odorant, fragrance or flavor. Flavors includes both the sense of taste and smell, whereas fragrances covers only smell. Flavors tend to be naturally occuring and fragrances tend to be synthetic. Pleasant odors refer by perfume, aroma, fragrance, smell and scent. Aroma compounds covers in this database mostly includes very small size compounds (i.e., < 300 molecular weights; able to evaporate & escape from the oil) and medium size compounds (i.e., < 500 molecular weights; constitute essential oils) of essential oils.

About Essential oil:

An essential oil is a concentrated hydrophobic liquid containing volatile aroma compounds from plants. Essential oils are also known as volatile oils, ethereal oils, aetherolea, or simply as the "oil of" the plant from which they were extracted. An oil is "essential" in the sense that it contains the "essence of" the plant's fragrance—the characteristic fragrance of the plant from which it is derived. Essential oils are generally extracted by distillation, often by using steam. Other processes include expression or solvent extraction. They are used in perfumes, cosmetics, soaps and other products, for flavoring food and drink, and for adding scents to incense and household cleaning products. Essential oils are also used in aromatherapy, a branch of alternative medicine that claims that essential oils and other aromatic compounds have curative effects. Essential Oils are volatilized or diluted in a carrier oil and used in massage, diffused in the air by a nebulizer, heated over a candle flame, or burned as incense.

About Fragrance oils:

Fragrance oils are blended synthetic aroma compounds or natural essential oils that are diluted with a carrier like propylene glycol, vegetable oil, or mineral oil. Therapeutic grade essential oils do not contain propylene glycol/petrochemicals. Aromatic oils are used in perfumery, cosmetics, flavoring of food.Fragrance oil is also known as aroma oil, aromatic oil and flavor oil. Synthetic fragrance oils are less desirable than plant derived essential oils as components of perfume.
