Indian prickly ash, scientifically termed Zanthoxylum rhetsa, belongs to the Rutaceae family. This deciduous shrub or tree, native from India to the Philippines and down to northern Australia, features cone-shaped spines, pinnate leaves with nine to twenty-three leaflets, and panicles of white or yellowish flowers. The blossoms are followed by spherical red, brown, or black follicles.
